Post-Op Massage

Post-Operative Massage

Post-operative massage is a therapeutic technique designed to aid recovery after surgery by reducing swelling, alleviating pain, and promoting faster healing. It includes various methods such as lymphatic drainage massage (LDM), scar tissue massage, and deep tissue massage. LDM uses gentle, rhythmic strokes to stimulate the lymphatic system and reduce swelling, while scar tissue massage focuses on breaking down adhesions to improve mobility and scar appearance. Deep tissue massage targets deeper muscle layers but is recommended only after initial healing.

The benefits of post-operative massage are extensive. It helps to reduce swelling and oedema, speeds up the healing process by enhancing circulation and lymphatic drainage, and alleviates pain and discomfort. Additionally, it prevents fibrosis, improves scar appearance, enhances skin texture, boosts immune function, and promotes relaxation. These combined effects contribute to a smoother and more effective recovery process.
